Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers were recognised at Essential Services Awards held at Yeronga Services and Community Club on 14 October 2019.
The Essential Services Awards has been held each year since 2012, to recognise officers from the Queensland Police Service (QPS), Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), and the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) who went above and beyond the call of duty.
The ceremony was attended by Minister for Fire and Emergency Services the Honourable Craig Crawford and Chief Superintendent Brian Swan, who handed the awards to six outstanding officers from the Queensland Police Service (QPS):
- Acting Sergeant Nathan Schaeffer from Coorparoo Police Station – He is known for “fostering a culture of inclusion, truth and compassion by his actions and behaviour of hard, honest police work.”
- Senior Constable Sandi Trembath from the West End Police Station – She was acknowledged for her knowledge about “various cultures, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, mental illnesses and trauma” which she used to build trust with vulnerable members in her community.
- Senior Constable Shayne Philipson from Southbank Police Station – He was recognised for consistently demonstrating commitment to investigations and maintaining high moral and ethical standards.
- Senior Constable Damian Rogers from Morningside Police Station – He was recognised for his efforts to improve QPS response and for striving to build relationships with the community and improve safety at local schools.
- Constable Brady Duggan from Dutton Park Police Station – He was awarded for his “work ethic and commitment to his duties and community.” His efforts to promote health and welfare in the community resulted in the establishment of a gym, participation in interstate sporting competitions, and an active station social club.
- Constable Luke Moloney from Annerley Police Station – He was once commended for responding to a stabbing incident that saved a person’s life, helped identify the offender, and preserved the crime scene.
“These officers are a credit to the Queensland Police Service, to the community they serve, and to their family and friends,” Inspector Tony Ridge said.
“I know that they will continue to work in a professional and ethical way to ensure the safety of Queenslanders.”
