A familiar butcher on Graceville Avenue has returned from the 2026 Queensland Meat Excellence Awards with eight medals, giving Gem Butchery statewide recognition across several sausage and burger categories.
The Graceville shop collected three gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the awards, held on 12 September at Mantra in Surfers Paradise.
Among its strongest results was a gold medal for the Lamb, Red Wine, Garlic & Caramelised Onion Sausage in the Australian Lamb Sausage category. Its Smokey Beef, Bacon & Maple Thick Sausage also received gold in Gourmet Sausage, while the Beef Chuck Burger with Salt & Pepper earned another gold in Best Butcher’s Traditional Beef Burger.
Owner Suzy attended the Queensland Meat Excellence Awards and State Gala Dinner on the Gold Coast, where butcher shops from across the state were represented.

More Recognition For The Graceville Shop
Gem Butchery’s other entries also featured across several categories.
The Lamb, Honey & Mustard Sausage, Beef, Cracked Pepper & Worcestershire Sauce Thick Sausage and Traditional South African Boerewors Sausage Coil each received silver medals.
Two poultry sausages completed the tally, with the Chicken, Leek & Bacon Thick Sausage and Chicken & Green Thai Coconut Curry Thick Sausage both receiving bronze.

Graceville Business Among Statewide Entrants
The awards drew a larger field in 2026, with a 20 per cent increase in the number of shops entered. More than 565 sausages and burgers were cooked and judged over three days, while 28 apprentices from across Queensland also competed.
For Gem Butchery, the result placed products made at its 158 Graceville Avenue shop among medal-winning entries from across Queensland.
The business operates from Graceville Avenue from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 4pm on Saturday, and is closed on Sunday.
